Oliver Simon

Oliver Simon founded K5 Film in 2001 backed by a housekeeping deal with the Bavaria Film Group. Since then he has produced 20 features.

His most recent production adventure is Andrew Niccols’ film ANON, starring Clive Owen and Amanda Seyfried, which he produced alongside Daniel Baur and Oda Schaefer at K5. Prior to that, he exec produced Martin Zandvliet´s Oscar nominated Land Of Mine and Jim Jarmuschs Cannes Competition title Paterson.

In 2006 his movie Happy As One, directed by Vanessa Jopp, premiered in the Official Selection of the Berlinale and went on to be nominated as Best Film at the German Film Awards. In 2009 he executive produced Get Low, starring Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek and Bill Murray. He also acted as an Executive Producer on Night Train To Lisbon, directed by Bille August, starring Jeremy Irons, Charlotte Rampling, Mélanie Laurent and Bruno Ganz, which premiered at the Berlinale in 2013. Since then he executive produced the Bruce Willis sci-fi action movie Vice.

Prior to K5 Film, Oliver co-founded freeX, the first ever German script development agency. He had identified the lack of professional script development in Germany after studying dramatic writing at NYU. From 1994 until 2001 he was involved, under the banner of freeX, in over 20 productions as writer, co-writer or script editor.

In 2006 Oliver partnered up with Daniel Baur, an experienced lawyer and financier. Together they formed K5 International, a sales agency, which ultimately became the K5 Media Group. Part of the K5 Media Group is K5 Media Capital which was founded with Sascha Prestel in 2009, as was the VOD-platform Nowtilus - co-chaired by the German production company Schmitz’ Katze – and since sold to Rovi.

In 2002 Oliver became a member of the renowned network of European producers, Ateliers du Cinéma Européen (aCe), in 2006 a voting member of the prestigious German Film Academy and in 2013 a voting member of the European Film Academy. In recent years he has been invited as a panelist and lecturer to Moscow, Doha, Cannes and Ronda besides international filmschools dffb Berlin and HFF Munich.
